Nintendo has reportedly banned Switch 2 players from using its online services after using the MIG Switch, a flash cartridge that can store pirated game files.

As reported by Kotaku, Nintendo had made the device incompatible with the new console. However, the makers of the MIG cartridge recently updated its firmware so Switch 1 titles could be loaded onto the Switch 2.

In response, Nintendo has allegedly started banning users that have run the MIG cartridge on the Switch 2 at some point.

Kotaku highlighted a Reddit user who had their console banned after using the device once, while another on X that used the cartridge for ROM dumps of their games was also banned.

Last month, Nintendo revised its Account Agreement and Account Privacy regulations to tighten prevention efforts for emulation and piracy.

It extended its US terms to specify that the publisher has the ability to “render the Nintendo Account Service and/or the applicable Nintendo device permanently unusable in whole or in part” if a user fails to comply with its terms and conditions.
